All-West Select Sires is pleased to announce the addition of Brian Melo to the technician team.  Brian was born and raised in Tulare, CA, and credits his love of the industry to being surrounded by cows!  “I’ve been around cows all of my life,” he explained. “I helped out on a dairy in Kings County, and when I wasn’t there, I spent time with my uncle who operated a hay service. I’d ride along with him on deliveries to local dairies.  I also spent time going to auctions and even had a few beef cattle of my own.”  In addition to all that, Brian’s brother-in-law is part of the All-West technician team in the same part of the state.  “It just clicked.  There’s just something about cows that caught my interest early on in life, and it’s never gone away.”

Brian mentions that he always heard good things about working for All-West and saw how happy people were with his brother-in-law’s breeding success.  “I wanted to be a part of that!  My goal in this job is two-fold.  While I’m working as a relief technician, I want to learn everything I can from everyone I ride with.  This team has tremendous experience and diversity, so everyone can teach me something.  The second part of my goal is to help all our producers improve their pregnancy rates and heat detection numbers.”

When he’s not busy with the southern California technician team, Brian still likes being outside.  “I used to spend a lot of time riding quads.  Now I enjoy a little slower-pace lifestyle, but working with animals and being able to work independently to get a job done is what really motivates me.”

Melo began his work with the All-West team in early 2015.
