  1. How did you get involved in the AI industry?

“I first got involved in the A.I. industry in the spring of 2013 while I was working at the CSU Chico State Organic Dairy. This is where I gained my first bit of experience breeding cows, along with interning for Dr. Karle at Mid-Valley Vet in Orland, CA for four years. The following summer, I took a relief breeding position in the Willows/Orland area. After graduating from CSU Chico and spending time on a couple of seedstock operations, I decided to move to the central valley to take a relief breeding position with All West/Select Sires. Six months later, I was fortunate enough to purchase my own established breeding business and I have been servicing herds in Escalon, CA as JMM Genetics ever since.”

  1. Describe a typical day in your life on the job.

“A typical day starts around 6 AM and usually ends around noon. I service three to four dairies daily and I breed anywhere between 50-100+ head of cows and heifers each day.  Sometimes I have to preg check dry and hospital cows for one of my clients if needed. Along with that, I enter a lot of the breedings for my clients and go over the upcoming week’s vet and ovsynch list. I also seasonally service beef clients around the valley and in the north state including breeding, synching herds, and preg checking, as well.”

  1. What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?

  1. What is your favorite part of your job?

“One of my favorite things about this job is seeing the results when calves hit the ground. It’s awesome to see the accuracy of the genomics translated right before your eyes. I also enjoy delivering the best results as far as conception rates and pregnancy rates go for all of my clients.”
