  1. When did you start working for All West, what is your current title, and where do you work?

  1. How did you get involved in the AI industry?

“When I was twelve, my parents moved out of Los Angeles because I was hanging around the wrong youth groups and we moved to Turlock, California. I started working on dairies as a way to make money. At that time, there were a lot of registered sales here and I worked cleaning out barns and taking care of cows and doing chores. Over a six-year period, I worked up to a position as a full-time fitter, traveling all the U.S., mostly on the West Coast, working sales and shows.

From there, I went back to college and got a degree in economics, then went to work for the U.S. Holstein Association as a classifier. I was there eight years when Bill Genasci approached me about everybody leaving Holstein and asked me if I was interested in leaving Holstein and that he needed to talk to me. My wife was standing next to me and said I needed to get together with Bill. She was tired of me being on the road so much. So, that is how I ended up at All West/Select Sires.”

  1. Describe a typical day in your life on the job.

“My main job here is getting semen and product in here and out to the customers with a lot of help from the staff around here. My typical day usually starts somewhere around four-thirty or five in the morning with phone calls and continues through the day until somewhere around six to seven o’clock at night, answering phone calls, concerns, tracking stuff down for people, trying to get the product out to our salesmen to get to the customers.”

  1. What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?

“Aside from trying to keep up with our two kids, my wife Tanya and I really enjoy hiking, traveling, and getting together with friends to enjoy a relaxing glass of wine or Crown Royal together.”

  1. If it was your choice, what unique name would you give our next best-selling bull?

“UNK – because everyone has them and everyone likes their daughters so it would be the easiest bull to market because everybody has already used the bull UNK and it would be another opportunity to use the best bull they’ve ever used before.”

  1. What is your favorite part of your job?

“My passion is good cows and good genetics and meeting people in the industry. The reason I like working in the dairy industry is the people and the opportunity to work with different operations and different kinds of people. It’s not the same thing every day, versus a cubicle job or being stuck on a factory line somewhere.

I really like working at All West/Select Sires because of its co-op structure. I like that our first job is to do what is right for the customer and it’s not always about the bottom line. It’s about making our customers successful, over worrying about whether we’re successful or not. I really like that part of what All West/Select Sires does versus some of the other companies that are for-profit companies and don’t necessarily have the same care about our customer-owners as we do here.”
