West/Select Sires has two internship positions available
for the summer of 2010, one in California and one in
Washington. All West/Select Sires realizes the importance
of exposing students to the many different aspects of
the A. I. industry, thus giving them the necessary work
experience that can help guide them in their decisions
both during and after college.
1.
What are the basic responsibilities and requirements
of an All West/Select Sires intern?
All West/Select Sires is committed to providing students
with internships that will not only give them a summer
job, but will also help them develop a portfolio and
resume as they enter the working world Successful candidates
will be majoring in animal science, dairy science or
a related field. A strong emphasis toward bovine reproductive
physiology preferred. Computer skills (Microsoft Office)
are essential for all internships. Additional responsibilities
may be assigned as the supervisor feels appropriate.

Will there be training or experiences in areas that
are unique programs to Select Sires?
Interns will also gain experience in the following areas:

Select Reproductive Solutions (SRS)
·
Select Mating Service (SMS)
·
Select Check Service
·
Attend advanced Select Check School in Moxie, WA

What specific internships are available at this time?
Select Reproductive Specialist Internship: All West/Select
Sires gives interns the unique opportunity to receive
training in our various programs and products that emphasize
dairy reproduction, evaluation and herd mating, direct
sales and service. They will also receive training in
our SRS Program, which provides consulting and program
services for reproductive problem solving in our customers
herds. We want our interns to be able to utilize their
course work in cattle physiology, dairy or animal science,
and apply that knowledge to the programs and experience
we will provide throughout this specialized course.

What are the qualifications of a summer intern?

Must be currently enrolled and at least junior status
at an accredited college or university
·
Animal or Dairy Science major or Ag Business major with
a minor in Dairy Science
·
Minimum grade point average of 2.5/4.0
·
Course work with an emphasis towards reproductive physiology
preferred

What is the intern salary and how will I be paid?
Their salary will be $1500.00 per month ($750.00 every
two weeks) Summer interns are paid via direct deposit
on a biweekly basis
6.
How long do the internships last?
All West/Select Sires internships are approximately
12 weeks long, with start and end dates coordinating
with the students school schedule.
7.
How many hours a week will I work?
A summer intern is considered a temporary full-time
employee, which typically requires 40 hours per week.
On occasion additional hours may be required.
8.
What if I need time off?
Prior approval from the supervisor is required, up to
one week without pay.
9.
Is housing provided?
It is the students responsibility to locate and
secure appropriate housing
10.
How do I apply and what is the deadline?
Candidates must submit a cover letter, resume and references.
