Happy Holidays from our Holstein lineup! The holiday season is especially busy for Select Sires Inc. Holstein Sire Analyst, Kevin Jorgensen, with an exciting sire summary ahead! Although he cannot predict the results of next week’s proofs, he can share details about impressive daughters he has been seeing throughout the nation on his recent travels. Read more to gain insight about three exciting young sires!

Season’s Greetings to everyone in the All West/Select Sires membership area! 2019 looks to be finishing on a positive note with milk prices improving and a fantastic cropping year for you in the western states.  As someone living in the Midwest, I can tell you that you are much more fortunate than us as harvest is a huge challenge this year in my area.

Let me also take the time on behalf of everyone working for Select Sires Inc. to thank you for your support of All West/Select Sires and Select Sires Inc. It is an honor for all of us to serve you, our member owners, and we appreciate your commitment to your cooperative.

The December sire summaries will be here before you know it and we are excited about the prospects of another successful day. I anticipate there will be a sizable new group of progeny proven graduates next week. However, it is better I stay out of the prediction business and share with you what we as a sire team are seeing in the field. Here are a few of my favorites from my travels this fall.

7HO12788 FRAZZLED debuted as the #4 GTPI proven sire in August 2019 and the great news for me to report is the more I see, the better I like them! I have seen several of his daughters on multiple occasions and they keep improving as their lactation wears on. For this reason, and many more, he is quickly becoming a customer satisfaction specialist! He sires cows that will be commercially friendly as they are healthy cows that are breeding back with particularly great udder texture and quality, as well as great mobility with athletic legs and feet. Frazzled’s future influence on the Select Sires bull program is going to be massive with several of his sons and now grandsons being used as sire fathers. Many of his daughters are having influential sons, as well. He is the right bull at the right time and as I mentioned earlier, the more you see his daughters, the more you like them!

7HO12787 KING ROYAL  was a bull who I predicted would certainly graduate in August and he did! His daughters are the most well-balanced cows I see in my travels and they combine the best of 7HO12198 KINGBOY and 7HO11314 MOGUL. His dam was one of Mogul’s best daughters and traces back to Robust’s full sister bred by Roylane Farms in Washington. They have beautiful udders like Mogul daughters, but also the eye appeal that the best Kingboy daughters have. King Royal will be a customer satisfaction “king” as his daughters perform well no matter where I travel. He is a great cross to Planet bloodlines, as well as Frazzled daughters. He will also have a big influence through his sons like 7HO14401 CASCADE and 7HO14402 EXCALIBUR.

Some of the most exciting new daughters we are seeing calve are the 250HO12961 KING DOC daughters. He recently had three VG young daughters scored at Siemers Holsteins in Wisconsin, as well as the winning milking yearling at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky. This popular Kingboy son is the new standard for the Showcase Selections program combining great conformation with high yield and positive health and fitness traits. Many of his heifers have garnered blue ribbons across the country, but now that they are calving, his best trait might be his udders, as they are well-attached well above the hock and have great texture and quality. He will not have enough data to be a graduate in December 2019, but look for him to become a proven graduate in April 2020.

Thank you again for your interest in Select Sires. I wish you a safe and prosperous holiday season and look forward to seeing many of you in 2020!
