Brian Christiansen is our newly elected All West/Select Sires District 15 Delegate, hailing from Meadowood Dairy in Turner, Oregon. The legacy of Meadowood Dairy started south of the Oregon border, long before Brian Christiansen was a dairy producer.
Brian’s grandfather started milking cows in California’s Humboldt County in 1944. His father bought the cows from his grandfather in 1976 and began using All West/Select Sires genetics at that time. He then moved the dairy to where they are today in Turner, OR in 1986. Brian joined his father on the farm in 2000, where he took on responsibility for most of the herd’s breeding program. In 2015, Brian and his wife Megan, along with Brian’s father, formed Meadowood Dairy, LLC and also became organic producers at the same time. They have been very successful in this venture, having been awarded the Gold Milk Quality Award for Organic Valley the last two years and Holstein Association USA’s Progressive Genetics Award for nine consecutive years.
Meadowood Dairy currently milks approximately 240 registered Holsteins, as well as several Registered Brown Swiss cows. They strive to breed their herd for Type, Fat, and Production, while keeping a close eye on Somatic Cell Score (SCS) and Daughter Pregnancy Rate (DPR) when selecting sires. They also believe in and pay attention to the cow families of their selected bulls.
Brian and Megan enjoy being involved in the dairy industry. Brian is looking forward to gaining more insight regarding how the All West/Select Sires cooperative works and offering suggestions to help keep the cooperative profitable for all in this new role.
Brian and Megan have been married for 20 years and have two children, Scott (15) and Anneka (12). When they are not busy on the farm, the family enjoys hiking and exploring Oregon’s beautiful scenery.
Welcome to the team, Christiansen Family!
