Perhaps you saw a fancy bus motoring through Central California’s dairy land recently. No, it wasn’t a tour bus full of rock band members on their way to L.A. …it was the 3rd Annual Parreira Breeding Service – All West/Select Sires Daughter tour! The bus was packed full of nearly 50 customers, friends, and team members of All West/Select Sires as they traveled to four elite dairies in Hanford and Tulare, California.

Mike Parreira of Parreira Breeding Service graciously hosts this event each year, alongside All West Dairy Program Specialist Angie Kennedy, who assists with the set-up, organization and execution of the fun-filled dairy day.

The team works with Mike’s most progressive customers to choose Select Sires and Accelerated Genetics sired cattle to put on display for the day’s tour. Even more important than the impressive cattle exhibited during the tour are the conversations and networking that takes place.

“It’s an awesome opportunity to get behind cows with that many progressive producers. Not only do we benefit from having conversations with them about how we can add value to their businesses, but they also benefit by voicing how we can help increase the genetic success of their herds. More importantly, they network with each other, producer to producer, in casual environments where they are most comfortable. They share ideas, best practices, and phone numbers that will allow them to maintain relationships with like-minded producers in the industry,” Mike Parreira acknowledged.

This year, the following customers graciously allowed us to visit their dairies; Joe Mendes of High Roller Dairy in Hanford, CA; Mike Valadao of Valadao Dairy in Hanford, CA; Steve Gaspar of Parreira and Gaspar Dairy in Tulare, CA; and Jeff Wilbur of Rio Blanco Dairy in Tulare, CA. Thank you for your willingness to share your facility, cattle, and genetic ideas with us! The tour ended at the Wilbur family’s home, where the Parreira family cooked up a delicious meal for all attendees to enjoy, in true Portuguese fashion!

The 3rd Annual Parreira Breeding Service – All West/Select Sires Daughter Tour proved to be the best one yet, with the largest number of participants. We are always looking for ways to improve this event and expand this type of tour to other areas of All West Territory. Would you be interested in a similar experience in another region? Your comments and suggestions are welcome!
