The second annual Western Dairy Showcase Dairy Cattle Youth Show will take place on October 13 – 16, 2022 at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock, California. The inaugural event in 2021 was a great success! You can learn more about it here.

This year’s show will be judged by Brady Core of Salvisa, Kentucky and showmanship will be judged by Rich Silacci of Ferndale, California.

We would like to make you aware of several upcoming deadlines to participate in this event:

1. Show entries are due on or before October 2, 2022.
• Late entries will be accepted at a higher entry fee from October 3-9, 2022.
• No entries will be accepted after October 9, 2022.

2. Pee-Wee Showmanship participants must register online prior to October 9, 2022.
• Ages: Walking – 8 years old
• No animal ownership needed. These exhibitors can borrow an animal.

3. New this year – Dairy Judging Contest for all Youth
• This is a FREE event open to all youth. You do not need to be an exhibitor to participate. There will be 3 divisions with awards in each division. It will be a 4-class contest with 1 set of reasons for those who are 15 years or older.
• It will take place on Thursday, October 13th at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds. Registration will be at 3:00 PM and the contest will begin at 2:00 PM.
• Awards will be presented once all contestants are finished that evening during the social/dinner.

4. A scholarship opportunity is available!
• Applicants must be a current high school seniors or current college/vocational school student.
• Must be a registered exhibitor at the Western Dairy Showcase.
• Must be a full-time student with 12 or more credits.
• Previous winners are not eligible.
• Applicants will be required to go through an interview on Friday 10/14 before showmanship begins.
• Applicants will be scored on their knowledge of the industry, sportsmanship, and overall enthusiasm for dairy.
• Applications for the 2022 Western Dairy Showcase scholarship must be turned in to the Dairy Clerk in the office at the fairgrounds no later than 6:00 PM on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Applications may also be emailed to dairyshowcase@gmail.com.
• Scholarship winners will be announced on Saturday, October 15th at the exhibitor dinner.

5. New this year – your first straw bedding will be provided!

6. The schedule for the entire show is as following:

Wednesday, October 12th

• Noon-5:00 PM: Barns Available to set-up, drop off tack and cattle.
Thursday, October 13th
• 8:00 AM: Barns Available
• 2:00 PM: New this year – Dairy Cattle Judging Contest open to all Juniors
• 3:30 PM: Milk Barn meeting – all exhibitors who will be milking in the parlor must attend
• 4:00 PM: Milk Barn opens and will remain open through Sunday afternoon
• 4:00 PM: Registration Paper Check-in Starts
• 5:00 PM: Pee Showmanship – you must pre-enter by the due date!
• 6:00 PM: All animals must be in place by 6:00 PM or arranged by the committee
• 6:00 PM: Social followed by a dinner at 6:30 PM hosted by Laird

Friday, October 14th

• Scholarship interviews will begin Friday morning before showmanship time TBD
• 9 AM -7 PM: Livestock office opens & check-in begins. All papers must be checked in by Friday, October 14, 2022 by 12 noon in order to show on Saturday or Sunday
• 10:00 AM: Exhibitor’s Meeting
• 11:00 AM: Showmanship starts with Novice – Seniors
• 6:00 PM: Social with light appetizers

Saturday, October 15th

• 8:00 AM: Office will open for questions
• 10:55 AM: Exhibitor Group Picture “mandatory”
• 11:00 AM: Judge all heifers (Alt. Registered Holstein, Registered AOB and grade)
• Followed by the Selection of Supreme Junior Champion
• 5:00 PM: Hosted Dinner by AL Gilberts/Farmers Warehouse/Lockwood

Sunday, October 16th

• 7:30 AM: Office will open for questions
• 9:00 AM: Cow Classes (alternating Alt. Registered Holstein, Registered AOB and grade) followed by the selection of Supreme Champion
